The Mission
Queens Legal Services was founded in 1967 and currently has a staff of over 65 dedicated individuals who provide high-quality civil legal services, social work support, and advocacy to low-income communities in Queens. The organization also works with clients and community partners to identify and challenge systemic inequalities faced by low-income communities in Queens and throughout New York City.
The Challenge
Queens Legal Services needed to increase its grant funding but was struggling keeping up with its applications and navigating the often complex application process from government grant funding sources. The organization needed a partner capable of guiding its grant-seeking program and increasing its funding.
The Journey
Queens Legal Services partnered with Grants Plus, which stepped in as its grant seeking partner to fulfill the organization’s mission of fighting poverty and seeking racial, social, and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. Grants Plus assisted Queens Legal Services with applying for eight multi-year applications with a variety of local, state, and federal funders and agencies.
The Results
Since partnering with Grants Plus, Queens Legal Services has gone eight for eight on its funding applications, achieving a win rate of 100% and gaining grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of the Treasury, New York State Office of Victim Services, and Hunger Solutions New York, among others. The organization’s grant funding has totaled approximately $5.2 million.
