The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) administers grant programs designed to reduce domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by strengthening services to victims and holding offenders accountable. Legal Assistance for Victims
The Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) Grant Program is intended to increase the availability of civil and criminal legal assistance needed to effectively aid victims (ages 11 and older) of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by providing funds for comprehensive direct legal services to victims in legal matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence.
Justice for Families Program
The Justice for Families Program improves the capacity of courts and communities to respond to families affected by the targeted crimes through court-based and court-related programs and services, supervised visitation and safe exchange by and between parents, training for people who work with families in the court system, and civil legal assistance.
Campus Program
The Campus Program funds institutions of higher education to develop coordinated community responses. These campus-wide coordinated responses should involve campus victim service providers, law enforcement/campus safety officers, health providers, housing officials, administrators, student leaders, faith-based leaders, representatives from student organizations, and disciplinary board members.
Grants Plus clients have received over $8m in grant funding and achieve a 65% award rate on applications to the Department of Justice, including applications to the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW).

Success Story: Queens Legal Services
Queens Legal Services partnered with Grants Plus, which stepped in as its grant seeking partner to fulfill the organization’s mission of fighting poverty and seeking racial, social, and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. During its partnership with Grants Plus, Queens Legal Services was eight for eight on its funding applications, achieving a win rate of 100% and gaining grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice (including an OVW grant), U.S. Department of the Treasury, New York State Office of Victim Services, and Hunger Solutions New York, among others. The organization’s grant funding has totaled approximately $5.2 million.
